Nevada County is located in the Sierra Nevada of California, in the Mother Lode Country. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 98,764. There are 974 square miles in Nevada County and the county seat is Nevada City. The county was created in 1851 and was named after the mining town of Nevada City, a name originally derived from the term “Sierra Nevada.”
There are two acute care hospitals in Nevada County including a Stroke Receiving Center. Emergency ground ambulance service for the county is provided by Penn Valley Fire Protection District, Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Ambulance and the Truckee Fire Protection District under Exclusive Operating Agreements (EOAs).
